Frequently Asked Questions

  • Sports counseling, also known as sports psychology or performance therapy, is a specialized field that focuses on the psychological factors affecting athletic performance and overall well-being. It includes a variety of techniques and strategies for improving mental skills, managing stress, increasing confidence, and promoting resilience in athletes.

At its core, sports counseling recognizes that athletes are not just bodies in motion but complex individuals with unique psychological needs and challenges. Whether it's dealing with performance anxiety, overcoming setbacks, or finding motivation, sports counselors provide athletes with the tools and support they need to thrive both on and off the field.

  • Ultimately, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to when athletes should seek out sports counseling. While the decision to pursue counseling is personal and may vary depending on individual circumstances, here are some key signs that indicate it may be beneficial for you to consider:

    1. Performance plateau or decline.

    2. Persistent performance anxiety.

    3. Difficulty handling pressure.

    4. Return from injury.

    5. Lack of motivation or burnout.

    6. Relationship strain.

    7. Major life transition.

If you're experiencing any of the signs mentioned above or if you feel that you could benefit from additional support in maximizing your athletic potential and overall well-being, reaching out to a sports counselor can be a proactive step toward achieving your goals.

Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. As a sports performance therapist, I'm here to support you on your journey to success, both on and off the field. If you have any further questions or would like to explore sports counseling options, please don't hesitate to reach out.

  • I do not take insurance at this time and I am not contracted with any insurance companies. If you are filing for out-of-network benefits with an insurance company I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your health plan for reimbursement. If you are using health insurance to cover all or a portion of the cost of treatment, please know that insurance providers require a mental health diagnosis and that services be “medically necessary” to use your benefits. There are many reasons to come to therapy and not all could arguably be considered “medically necessary.” Please consider this before deciding to use your insurance. In addition to requiring a diagnostic code, your insurance company is also provided with your service dates and may inquire about your treatment progress as a matter of determining eligibility for payment. Insurance does not pay for any missed appointments or late cancellations
